Hendriks (elbow) will make back-to-back appearances with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday and Thursday and could be activated from the 60-day injured list as soon as Saturday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hendriks has allowed just one unearned run over his first four rehab innings, but he averaged just 92.8 mph with his fastball and 83.8 mph with his slider in his last appearance. Both numbers are significant dips from last season and down considerably from Hendriks' peak velocities in past years. That's not terribly surprising given his long layoff, but the Red Sox might not be anxious to put him into high-leverage spots until he rediscovers some velocity.

His first three rehab outings came in the fifth and sixth innings, while Wednesday's was in the eighth for the WooSox. He'll pitch again Friday and is trending toward a return in the first or second week of September.

Hendriks (elbow) pitched a prefect fifth inning for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Hendriks, making the first appearance of a rehab assignment, needed 12 pitches (10 strikes) to dispatch the side in order on a flyout and two groundouts. He threw seven four-seam fastballs (topping out at 95.6 miles per hour), one curveball and one slider, per Baseball Savant. Hendriks is confident he'll return from the 60-day injured list and pitch in the majors later this season, and he could be a helpful piece out of the bullpen as the Red Sox attempt to make the postseason.

Hendriks (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hendriks has spent the entire season on the injured list working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and he's now been cleared to return to a competitive setting after throwing several rounds of live batting practice. Manager Alex Cora said the goal will be for the 35-year-old reliever to throw seven innings in the minors before returning from the IL, so he's likely a couple weeks away from being activated.

EDGE Analysis
Manager Alex Cora didn't commit to sending Hendriks on a minor-league rehab assignment but indicated that it will probably be the next step in Hendriks' recovery from Tommy John surgery. Hendriks hasn't pitched in a game since June 10, 2023 and will likely need several appearances in the minors before being activated.
