Nootbaar supplied a late home run in the ninth off Adam Ottavino to bring the Cardinals within two runs. It was his first long ball since his season debut April 12. His eye at the plate was magnificent, as he drew three walks for the first time since Sept. 15 after having walked just twice since April 20 entering Tuesday's game. The 26-year-old has yet to find a groove at the dish thus far, slashing only .183/.295/.329 with eight extra-base hits, eight RBI, seven runs and a 13:17 BB:K in 96 plate appearances.

Nootbaar doubled in his final at-bat of the contest to send home Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. Nootbaar actually spoiled what could have been a productive start for the Cardinals' offense in the first inning when he grounded into a double play after the first two batters reached base to open the frame. He did, however, do his best to make up for it in his next at-bat, opening the fourth inning with a single before coming around to score St. Louis' first run on a Willson Contreras double. The left fielder has now hit safely in four of his first six games to open the season and even swiped his first bag in Wednesday's loss. He'll look to record his first multi-hit game of the campaign this weekend when the Cardinals host the Brewers.

He wasted little time making an impact, knocking a 110 mph, two-run shot off Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt in the third inning.
