Marlins recalled C Kyle Skipworth from Triple-A New Orleans. He'll be with the club for a few days while Austin Kearns is on the bereavement list. Skipworth is unlikely to see much playing time.

The Marlins are expected to give prospect Kyle Skipworth an extended look in spring training. A first-round pick in 2008, Skipworth has an underwhelming .660 OPS over parts of five seasons in the minors, but did manage to hit 21 home runs at Double-A Jacksonville last season. With Jeff Mathis expected to miss at least six weeks due to injury, he could a candidate for the backup job behind Rob Brantly.
