Farmer is deserving of a significant trial in the big leagues, but he will need an injury to Yasmani Grandal or Austin Barnes to get any kind of steady work in September. He's been effective when called upon in the Show this season, although his usage has been very limited. Over 10 games, Farmer has logged just 10 at-bats, over which he's picked up four hits.

Farmer is a catcher also capable of playing third base, the kind of depth the Dodgers like to have in their system. Adding him to the 40-man roster protects him from the Rule 5 draft, but he's still probably at least a year away from the majors judging from his .256/.323/.395 line at Double-A Tulsa, unless the Dodgers run into injury problems at catcher.
