2019 Bullpen Outlooks - National League West rotoballer.com Fri 1/25/19 6:45 AM
The East and Central have already been covered, so let's head out west. It's time to see what's going on in the bullpens of the National League West division. There are still too many significant relief pitchers on the free agent market to believe that any bullpen is "set" for Opening Day, but there are a few NL West bullpens who at least have their closers set. Meanwhile, there are a pair of bullpens who seem ready to go into spring training with a full-on battle for the ninth inning. [...]

2019 Relief Pitchers - Early Fantasy Baseball Tiered Rankings rotoballer.com Mon 1/14/19 7:00 AM
A tough position to evaluate is that of relief pitchers, as a lot of success for closers comes from success from teams. There are also a lot of bullpens by committee these days, further stifling the value of closers. That being said, only four of the pitchers that ranked in the top-10 in saves in 2017 followed up in 2018. One of those pitchers had a huge jump in saves, but [...]
Kirby Yates Settles With Padres rotoballer.com Fri 1/11/19 2:01 PM
San Diego Padres closer Kirby Yates avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.062 million deal, according to a source. Yates will enter 2019 as the Friars closer, but he's merely a low-end fantasy closing option on a team that is perennially near the bottom of the National League West. The right-hander has good stuff, though, posting a 2.14 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 90 K's in 63 innings in 2018.

San Diego Padres relief pitcher Kirby Yates quietly had one of the better overall seasons for a reliever in 2018 and finished the year as the Friars ninth-inning man after they traded lefty Brad Hand to the Indians. Yates, in his first full season in San Diego, posted a dominating 2.14 ERA, 0.92 [...]
Kirby Yates Should Secure Padres 2019 Closer Role rotoballer.com Thu 9/27/18 2:39 PM
San Diego Padres closer Kirby Yates worked around two walks to collect his 12th save Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants. Handshakes have been rare for the 31-year-old journeyman since he took over for Brad Hand, but Yates has amassed six saves in September. He holds exceptional season numbers with a 2.07 ERA, 0.92 [...]

If you're still reading this, you're most likely either in the playoffs or winding down the year in a rotisserie league. Either way: congrats! This week was another interesting one in bullpens across the league, one that will certainly affect not only the fantasy playoffs but also the real MLB playoffs next month.
There's bullpen turmoil in the desert, as the wearer of baseball's best Players' Weekend jersey may not be closing anymore. There's a familiar name in a somewhat unfamiliar position[...]
Kirby Yates Back From Bereavement List rotoballer.com Mon 9/3/18 1:30 PM
The San Diego Padres reinstated relief pitcher Kirby Yates from the bereavement list and pitcher Luis Perdomo (shoulder) from the disabled list on Monday. Yates missed the weekend series against the Rockies but will return to the closer's role this week. He's been solid for the Friars with a 2.09 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and six saves in 53 appearances. Yates should be owned everywhere. Perdomo could see a start or two to close out the year but isn't attractive as a fantasy streamer.
Kirby Yates Placed On Bereavement List rotoballer.com Sat 9/1/18 9:14 AM
The San Diego Padres placed closer Kirby Yates on the bereavement list on Friday and called up reliever Rowan Wick in a corresponding move. Yates has been the team's closer ever since Brad Hand was traded to the Indians in late July. He's been solid and should be owned in all leagues, but he will be away from the club for a few days. Reliever Craig Stammen could see a save chance while Yates is away.
