Pillar agreed to a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Blue Jays on Friday, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was the first offseason he was arbitration eligible, and Pillar will receive a raise of $2.7 million. In 2017, he slashed .256/.300/.404 with 16 home runs, 42 RBI and 15 stolen bases. Looking ahead, Pillar will once again provide durability, speed and a below-average bat, while starring in the outfield.

Pillar probably won't be placed on the paternity list. It's September, and the 40-man rosters often leave such transactions unnecessary. Though there's a chance he'll resurface Sunday, he likely will be home with his soon-to-be-expanded family while the Blue Jays' season comes to an end. He can be dropped in any league where owners will need someone for the weekend.

EDGE Analysis
Pillar crushed his 15th homer of the campaign in the sixth inning to give the Blue Jays a lead they'd never relinquish. Despite a few multi-hit games this month, he's slashing .259/.302/.413, and with just a single stolen base since August 1, he hasn't been doing fantasy managers many favors lately.

Coming off Tuesday's 19-inning outing versus Boston, Pillar will have the night off. The Blue Jays don't play Thursday, so Pillar, who's hitting .286 with a .743 OPS over the last seven games, will likely return to action Friday against the Tigers. Teoscar Hernandez will start in center and hit second Wednesday.

He very nearly got to play the hero in the ninth, as he led off the frame with a double off Zach Britton and advanced to third on a groundout, but then got cut down at home on a great play by Jonathan Schoop to send the game into extra innings. Pillar is now working on a seven-game hitting streak and is hitting .355 (22-for-62) over his last 17 contests.

After reaching base at a .235 clip over his last four games, Pillar will head to the bench as the Blue Jays make room in center field for Ezequiel Carrera. Pillar is slashing an unremarkable .243/.286/.360 since the All-Star break, which could put him at risk of surrendering more starts to Carrera or one of the Blue Jays' September outfield callups if he's unable to show improvement at the plate in his subsequent appearances.

He was left on the pine Thursday for a routine maintenance break, but Pillar will resurface for this matinee affair at Wrigley Field. Pillar has scuffled of late but still can help deep-league fantasy players with a useful combo of power (12 home runs this year) and speed (14 steals).

The center fielder appeared en route to a career campaign early in 2017, hitting .303/.352/.492 with seven homers, 30 runs and seven stolen bases through his first 45 games. In the 69 games since then, Pillar has slashed just .206/.259/.323 while posting a noticeably higher strikeout rate. He remains a solid option in AL-only leagues, but in mixed formats, there are better options than Pillar.
