The 26-year-old split time between Triple-A and the big club in 2017, posting a 3.20 ERA with the Royals and a 3.09 ERA with the Storm but posting a K/9 rate below 5.5 at each stop. He should join the big club at some point in 2018.

McCarthy pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out four White Sox in long relief Wednesday.

The rookie's services were needed after starter Eric Skoglund lasted just three innings. Through 29 games this season, the 25-year-old owns a solid 2.75 ERA, but his poor 23:10 K:BB ratio and low-leverage role serves no purpose in fantasy circles.

He'll likely head back to the minors when room is needed for Cahill's replacement starter.
