Vargas homered in a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was held hitless in his first game back in Minnesota on Monday, but he did exactly what they called him up for Tuesday night. He slammed 14 homers in 82 games for Triple-A Rochester before the call-up. His raw power is apparent, but the question will be if he can make enough contact for it to matter. In his first two stints with the Twins, Vargas had just 14 home runs but 117 strikeouts in 111 games.

Vargas will start at first base and slot fifth in the order Monday against the Athletics, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was promoted from Triple-A Rochester earlier Sunday after Trevor Plouffe (ribs) landed on the DL, and he'll immediately step into the lineup with a couple of the Twins' other position players still banged up. Eduardo Escobar is battling a hamstring injury and Byron Buxton is dealing with general soreness, but neither player looks at risk of missing significant time. If that ends up being the case, Vargas can't be counted on to see everyday at-bats.

Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Twins called up Vargas to assume the roster spot of Trevor Plouffe, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a cracked rib. Vargas' power has long been regarded as his best tool, but a poor contact rate has made it difficult to establish himself as a viable lineup option in the big leagues. In addition, Vargas doesn't possess much positional versatility, and with Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano seemingly locked into regular roles at first base and DH, respectively, it may be difficult for the 25-year-old to make a legitimate push for at-bats.

He's struggled by going just 5-for-57 against lefties. His .884 OPS against righties . With a crowded first base and DH situation in the majors, Vargas is likely to spend almost all season at Triple-A.

Vargas was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was just 2-for-24 in spring training. Vargas began last season as Minnesota's starting DH after hitting .274/.316/.456 with nine home runs in 53 games in his major league debut in 2014. He struggled in his second season with a .642 OPS and just five home runs in 47 games before he was demoted to the minors in July. He then hit 13 home runs with a .910 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A. He still could succeed in the majors as he's just 25 years old, but the singing of Byung-ho Park blocks his path to the majors.
