ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Phillies have "talked to the Marlins" about closer Leo Nunez. The Marlins are looking for young starting pitching this deadline, and the Phillies have a ton of it. Nunez, 27, is sporting a 3.30 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 43 2/3 innings this season and has converted 27-of-30 save opportunities. He'd fit nicely at the back-end of the Philadelphia bullpen.

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel writes that there's a "good chance" Leo Nunez is dealt before the trade deadline. Nunez will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and Rodriguez finds it doubtful that the Marlins will want to pay him. Mike Dunn, who was acquired from the Braves in the Dan Uggla deal, might be the best internal option to take the reins in the event of a trade, since Clay Hensley is being moved into the starting rotation.

Since blowing three out of four save chances at the end of May and the beginning of June, Leo Nunez has converted six straight. Nunez has been far from dominant this year, but he's converted 25-of-28 saves despite a shaky 3.51 ERA. Since June 1, he has a 4.50 ERA with an 11/6 K/BB rate in 14 innings. The Marlins' closer still has nothing to worry about as far as job security.

Leo Nunez surrendered a double and RBI-triple, but held on Sunday to capture his 22nd save. Since blowing three out of four save chances, Nunez has converted four straight despite giving up three runs in his last two opportunities. The Marlins' closer rides a somewhat shaky 3.76 ERA into the last week before the All-Star break.

Leo Nunez recorded his 22nd save despite giving up a two-run homer in the ninth inning Thursday against the A's. A dominant closer he isn't, but Nunez is 22-for-25 saving games this year. The runs today were the first he had allowed in six appearances, so he still has nothing to worry about as far as job security.

Leo Nunez recorded one out -- via strikeout -- to earn his 20th save in a 5-2 win against the Angels on Tuesday. It was remarkably his first save of June after he recorded 19 in April and May. Such is life as a closer on a struggling team. Florida entered the ninth with a 5-0 lead but called on Nunez when Jose Ceda allowed two runs while recording two outs. Nunez walked a batter before ending the game with a punch out. He now has a 3.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the year.
