Naylor will not start Wednesday's game against lefty Danny Duffy and the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor has started against each righty Cleveland has faced since he came over in a deadline-day deal with the Padres, but he's been on the bench against both lefties. Expect that platoon setup to continue going forward. Oscar Mercado takes over in left field Wednesday.

Naylor is expected to be Cleveland's primary left fielder for the remainder of the season, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor couldn't carve out regular at-bats in a crowded outfield in San Diego, but he's apparently viewed as one of the best options in a similarly crowded group for his new team. He hasn't shown much at the plate thus far in his big-league career, hitting just .253/.315/.405 in 317 plate appearances over the last two seasons, but scouts have long believed he'll have the ability to hit for both power and average. He's actually hit better against lefties than righties thus far, though his .314/.340/.431 line against southpaws comes in a tiny sample of just 53 plate appearances, so it's still quite likely he winds up on the bench frequently against lefties.

Naylor was shipped from San Diego to Cleveland on Monday as part of a six-player package for Mike Clevinger, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor moves from one team with an outfield logjam to another, though he at least joins an organization that's guaranteed to have a designated hitter spot (Naylor's likely future home) available beyond this season. Just what sort of a role Naylor is able to carve out in Cleveland remains to be seen, as he's yet to make good on his potential at the plate, hitting a modest .253/.315/.405 in 317 career plate appearances. He has the potential to hit for both power and average eventually, and he's still just 23 years old, so there's certainly a chance he develops into a useful piece for his new team.

Naylor hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat during a 13-2 win over the Rockies on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor did not get the start in the contest, but he joined in on a five-homer day by San Diego after coming in as a defensive replacement for Wil Myers. The prodigious 444-foot blast was Naylor's first of the season. It was also only his second hit over his past 12 at-bats.

Naylor is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor went 1-for-1 before giving way to Jurickson Profar in the fifth inning of Game 1. Profar will remain in the starting lineup in place of Naylor in Game 2.

Naylor is out of the lineup Saturday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old was recalled from the alternate training site last weekend but hasn't seen consistent playing time in the absence of Tommy Pham (hand), as he's started only two of six games. Naylor has a .308/.357/.385 slash line through 28 plate appearances.

Naylor will be on the bench Friday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Naylor hits the bench after starting two straight games as the designated hitter. Fernando Tatis Jr. will rest his legs at that spot Friday, with Jake Cronenworth serving as the shortstop.

Naylor and Edward Olivares could see added opportunities at designated hitter or in left field after Padres manager Jayce Tingler announced Monday that Tommy Pham (hand) would miss 4-to-6 weeks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres intended for Pham to be their primary left fielder this season, but nagging groin and calf injuries have resulted in him making 10 of his 23 starts at designated hitter. Now that Pham's fractured hamate bone is expected to sideline him for most of what's left of the season, the Padres will presumably go with two of Wil Myers, Naylor and Edward Olivares as their primary options in left field and at DH against right-handed pitching, while Ty France and/or Jorge Mateo could factor in at either spot versus left-handed pitching. Naylor boasts intriguing raw power and has thus far shown the ability to keep his strikeouts in check at the MLB level, but he has yet to reach his full potential as a slugger. Through 295 career plate appearances, Naylor has slashed .250/.315/.403 (90 wRC+).
