Jose Molina is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a right quad contusion. Molina was struck by a pitch during the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the White Sox. He'll need a day or two off, but will avoid a trip to the disabled list. Jose Lobaton replaced him in the lineup on Saturday and will carry the load in his absence.

Jose Molina was removed from Saturday's game against the White Sox in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch in the right knee. Molina attempted to walk it off, and appeared like he wanted to remain in the game, but Rays skipper Joe Maddon elected to play it safe and replace him. He'll likely be examined to rule out any serious injury, but he should be considered day-to-day. Jose Lobaton replaced him in the lineup.

Jose Molina went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season Thursday against the Orioles. It was a solo shot. Molina is mostly out there for his defense and his ability to frame pitches than his contributions with the bat, so we aren't expecting much in fantasy leagues. The 37-year-old batted just .223 with eight homers and a .640OPS in 102 games last year.

Rays exercised C Jose Molina's $1.8 million club option for 2013. Molina batted just .223/.286/.355 with eight homers and a .640 OPS this season, but the Rays believe his contributions behind the plate are worth keeping him around at this price. However, they figure to be on the lookout for another catcher this winter.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays are expected to exercise Jose Molina's $1.8 million option for 2013. Molina batted just .223/.286/.355 with eight longballs this season for Tampa. He's not a desirable option as a starter, but the Rays like what he does with the pitching staff, so having him around as a backup at a modest salary is reasonable. Look for Tampa to seek another catcher this winter.
