Alvarado (personal) could rejoin the Rays later in the week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarado has been away from the team since June 2 while tending to a personal matter in his native Venezuela. While the team was originally hoping to have the southpaw back Monday or Tuesday, it now sounds like he's trending toward returning during the team's upcoming four-game series against the Angels, which begins Thursday.

The Rays transferred Alvarado (personal) to the restricted list ahead of Sunday's 6-1 win over the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarado has yet to rejoin the team and had already been sidelined for the minimum seven days allotted for players on the family medical emergency list, prompting Tampa Bay to reclassify his status. Manager Kevin Cash said that Alvarado's absence likely won't drag on for much longer, going as far to suggest the hard-throwing lefty could be reinstated as soon as Monday or Tuesday.

Alvarado (personal), whose seven-day stint on the family medical emergency list ended Saturday, is likely to be moved to the restricted list, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarado remains in his native Venezuela tending to a family issue, necessitating the move. However, Topkin adds that the left-hander is expected back with the team early in the week, so his stay on the restricted list figures to be brief.

Alvarado (personal) remains in Venezuela with his family and isn't expected to return to the team for Tampa Bay's weekend series against the Red Sox, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Kevin Cash got in touch with Alvarado on Tuesday, and while the skipper is optimistic that the lefty will be back by the weekend, it seems unlikely at this point. Alvarado was placed on the family medical list Sunday.

The Rays placed Alvarado on the family medical list Sunday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The transaction means Alvarado will remain away from the team for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven. The hard-throwing lefty's temporary absence clears some clutter in the Rays' closer committee, with Diego Castillo and Emilio Pagan now representing the clear top candidates for saves in the interim. Adam Kolarek was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move to add another arm to the Tampa Bay bullpen.

Alvarado was charged with a blown save in Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays by allowing one run on two hits and two walks without recording an out.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarado was extremely fortunate to only be charged the one run considering he exited the game with the bases loaded and nobody out. He entered to start the eighth inning so he may not have been used as the closer Wednesday, but nonetheless takes his second blown save of the year. The 24-year-old has struggled in his last six outings with a 4:7 K:BB and six runs given up over 4.1 innings.

Alvarado posted one strikeout during a two-out save in a 6-3 victory against the Indians on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old was very efficient, recording his two outs in just seven pitches. Alvarado needed an outing like this after giving up five runs in his last 2.2 frames. Alvarado is 6-for-7 in save chances with a 3.05 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 20.2 innings this season. He should continue to split save opportunities with right-hander Diego Castillo.

Alvarado, who was charged with a loss against the Indians on Friday after allowing two earned runs on two hits and three walks over an inning, will continue to see his usual amount of save opportunities, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alvarado essentially shares the closer role with right-hander Diego Castillo, who matches Alvarado's five saves while checking in with a lower ERA (2.39) and WHIP (1.03). Alvarado sports 3.15 and 1.35 figures in those categories and is now 0-4 on the season while also sporting one blown save. However, manager Kevin Cash made it a point to state he "has no concerns whatsoever" about the southpaw, whose bloated 5.4 BB/9 has been a culprit in his occasional struggles.

Alvarado retired the side in the bottom of the 11th inning to earn his fifth save Saturday against the Yankees. He allowed one hit and no walks and struck out one in an inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
After blowing his first save chance since April 7 on Friday, Alvarado was given another opportunity and this time was successful, working around a leadoff single from Luke Voit before producing a strikeout and a double play. The Rays still figure to play matchups with their closer, but this will help Alvarado stay a part of the committee. The left-hander has a strong 2.37 ERA and 1.16 on the season along with a 28:9 K:BB.

Alvarado (0-3) allowed three earned runs on four hits, a walk and a wild pitch over two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Yankees on Friday. He also recorded a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The normally reliable closer's hiccup cost the Rays the game, as he failed to hold the 3-1 lead he'd been entrusted with entering the final frame. Alvarado got into trouble immediately by surrendering a solo home run to Luke Voit to open the inning, and he ultimately allowed the game-tying and winning runs on a wild pitch and single, respectively. It was the first time Alvarado's ERA was blemished since April 21, and the outing also marked his first blown save of the season.
