In the lineup over Jesus Montero, Jorge Posada homered and scored twice Tuesday against the Orioles. It was Posada's first start since Aug. 30. The Yankees won't forget about him, but he'll have to show something in limited action to guarantee himself a spot on the postseason roster.

Jorge Posada made his major league debut at second base in Thursday's blowout of the A's. Manager Joe Girardi stuck Posada at second base in the ninth inning of a 22-8 game, and he handled an Anthony Recker grounder to end it, though he did bounce the throw to first. Posada was originally a second baseman in the minors, but this is the first time in 20 years that he's played the position in a game.

Jorge Posada will serve as the designated hitter Monday night against the Royals. He'll bat eighth against right-hander Felipe Paulino. Posada was told just over a week ago that he would no longer be the primary DH against right-handed pitching, but he's getting another shot Monday after going 3-for-5 with a grand slam and a season-high six RBI against the Rays on Saturday.

Jorge Posada said Sunday that he plans to continue his baseball career next season. Posada is set to become a free agent this winter and it's doubtful the Yankees will look to re-sign him after such a poor 2011. But other teams could came calling, and the 39-year-old veteran intends to listen. Granted, he's nothing more than a designated hitter at this point.

Jorge Posada busted out against the Rays on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam and six RBI. We hope Jesus Montero didn't pack his bags for the Bronx yet. Posada had a two-run single in the second inning and a grand slam in five-run fifth inning. The six RBI are his most in one game since September 6, 2006. Just to put his recent struggles into perspective, he had just one home run and six RBI over his previous 29 games. We're obviously not ready to say he's back yet, but it will be interesting to see if he is in the starting lineup Sunday against right-hander James Shields.

Jorge Posada was told Sunday that he will no longer be the team's DH against right-handers. "He said he was going to put the best lineup on the field, and he doesn't know when I'm going to DH again," Posada said. "So right now I'm sitting on the bench." The promotion of Jesus Montero may be imminent.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi told Jorge Posada Sunday that Posada's at-bats could diminish. Posada had already been in a platoon at DH, but now Girardi appears to want both Eduardo Nunez and Eric Chavez in the lineup against right-handed pitching. "We're going to see how this works," Girardi said. "We're going to try some different things. We'll see how this works, and I told Jorge, 'You're still going to be a big part of this, and we're going to need you. We're just going to do some different things.'" Posada is batting just .230 with nine homers and 31 RBI through 317 plate appearances. Clearly New York is searching for an upgrade over a .681 OPS at the DH spot.

Jorge Posada is hitting just .160 (8-for-50) with no homers over his last 17 games. It hasn't been magnified because the Yankees can still mash even when Posada isn't hitting, but the soon-to-be 40-year-old has been pretty awful most of the season, batting just .224/.307/.376. Posada wouldn't commit to returning for a 17th season. "I'm keeping the option open and see what happens," he said.

Jorge Posada will serve as the designated hitter in Thursday's game against the Rangers. An interesting move by Joe Girardi against the southpaw C.J. Wilson. While Posada is swinging the bat much better recently, he is just 3-for-34 (.088) against left-handed pitching this season.
