Jon Rauch picked up the win in relief for the Blue Jays after pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings on Thursday. Rauch took over after Casey Janssen gave up a game-tying grand slam in the eighth and held the Mariners scoreless for the rest of the game. He hasn't had a save chance since manager John Farrell returned him to the closer's role at the All-Star break, but he's kept himself in position to get the next one the Blue Jays generate.

Jon Rauch avoided suspension but was fined undisclosed amount by MLB for his involvement last week's incident with umpire Alfonso Marquez. Rauch looked like a madman when he after Marquez due to some questionable calls on balls and strikes. But, luckily for him, his manager and teammates held him back so he never made contact with the umpire, which surely saved him from a suspension. Rauch is expected to serve as the Blue Jays' closer in the short term while Frank Francisco sorts through his issues.

Blue Jays manager John Farrell said before Friday's game that Jon Rauch would be used as the team's closer while Frank Francisco works through his problems. We knew that Francisco had been bumped from the role, but we weren't sure if Farrell would go with Rauch or Octavio Dotel, who has pitched the best of the triumvirate of late. Now we know it will be Rauch, who has converted 7-of-9 save chances this season but who has a 5.40 ERA over his last nine appearances and a 4.21 ERA for the season. We're guessing Francisco will probably get the job back shortly after the All-Star break, but with the Jays bullpen this season, you never know.

Jon Rauch could be facing discipline for his blowup Saturday on home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez. Rauch had to be restrained and eventually lost his entire jersey as the Toronto coaching staff held him back. He was upset about a few borderline pitches that allowed the Phillies to pad their late lead. MLB is reviewing the tape.

Jon Rauch took a loss after giving up two runs in a tie game Thursday against the Orioles. Rauch entered with the score 2-2 to begin the top of the ninth and gave up back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third. Derrek Lee hit a grounder after that and the throw home was too late to retire the runner, resulting in an RBI for Lee and a fielder's choice. Rauch was then pulled, and one of the two inherited runners came around to score afterwards. The poor outing doesn't figure to cost Rauch the Jays' next save chance, assuming they do eventually get another one. They've had just one all month.
