Brewers optioned RHP Johnny Hellweg to Triple-A Nashville.
Hellweg is closing in on a permanent spot in the big leagues, but his ascension won't be completed by Opening Day. He went 12-5 with a 3.15 ERA with the Sounds last season. Expect the 6-foot-9 right-hander to get another shot with the Brewers this summer. He went 1-4 with a 6.75 ERA over 30 2/3 frames with the Crew in 2013.

Johnny Hellweg reported to Brewers' camp at 245 pounds after finishing last season at 208 pounds.
Hellweg admits to wearing down late last season, so he worked hard at putting on some good weight over the winter in hopes of staying strong throughout 2014. "Just worked out hard, changed my diet, ate right," said Hellweg. "I cut out a lot of bad stuff in my diet. Mostly protein and carbs, no gluten. It helped. It was a lot of work, actually. In the end I was sick of eating so much this offseason. It's a grind." The big right-hander is ticketed for the Triple-A rotation to start this season.

Johnny Hellweg was lifted after allowing one run in four innings Thursday against the Mets.
Hellweg walked four, hit two and threw a wild pitch, but the Mets couldn't capitalize. Hellweg ends the year with an incredible 9/26 K/BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings for the Brewers. He'll return to Triple-A to begin next year.

Johnny Hellweg allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Friday.
Hellweg left with the lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. He gave up seven hits and five walks while striking out just one batter, so he was far from effective. The 24-year-old rookie has a brutal 7.43 ERA and 6/22 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings in the majors this season and shouldn't be trusted in any fantasy league right now.

Johnny Hellweg gave up four runs in five innings Saturday in a loss to the Reds.
Hellweg allowed eight hits (including a two-run homer to Shin-Soo Choo) and one walk while striking out just one batter. The rookie right-hander now owns an ugly 8.31 ERA and 5/17 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings in the majors. He's not fantasy relevant.

The Brewers will call up right-handers Johnny Hellweg and Jimmy Nelson and first baseman/outfielder Sean Halton on Tuesday.
Triple-A Nashville wrapped up their season on Monday, so the Brewers will add them as September call-ups. Hellweg and Halton have had previous stints with the big club, but Nelson will be making his major league debut.
