Wendle (intercostal) hit off a tee and did defensive drills Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wendle is back to doing baseball activities after a week-long shutdown for a right intercostal strain. He is eligible to be activated off the 10-day IL at any time, but it probably won't happen for several more days as he tests the muscle and works into form. Jon Berti has been serving as the Marlins' primary shortstop in Wendle's absence.

The Marlins announced Monday that Wendle (intercostal) remains shut down from baseball activities, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wendle is a week removed from suffering a right intercostal strain and isn't ready to ramp things back up yet. He shouldn't take an extended period time to get back up to full speed once he's resumes baseball activities, but it's not clear when that might happen. He looks like he'll end up spending more than the minimum 10 days on the injured list.

The Marlins placed Wendle on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right intercostal strain, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wendle was scratched from the Marlins' lineup Monday because of the injury and can now probably be ruled out through at least mid-April. Jon Berti figures to handle the bulk of starts at shortstop in the meantime and offers excellent speed to go along with his increase in playing time. Wendle was 0-for-8 with one walk and two strikeouts through four games played this year.

Wendle (oblique) is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Tuesday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Wendle was scratched Monday due to oblique soreness and could be looking at an IL stint if the issue lingers any longer. Jon Berti will start at shortstop and bat ninth Tuesday night against the Twins and right-hander Kenta Maeda.

Wendle was scratched from the Marlins' lineup Monday due to oblique soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The severity of Wendle's oblique soreness isn't clear at this point, but it's certainly something which could lead to a stint on the injured list. Jon Berti is replacing Wendle at shortstop Monday and would be in line to fill in at shortstop if the latter requires an extended absence.

Wendle is not in the Marlins' lineup for Thursday's matchup against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wendle had just a .595 OPS against southpaws last season, so the lefty-hitting infielder will take a seat Friday against the lefty-throwing David Peterson. Jon Berti will take over for him at shortstop and bat ninth.

Wendle went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Batting sixth and getting the start at shortstop, Wendle collected only his fourth hit of the spring in 26 at-bats, but three of them have come in his last three games. The 32-year-old has never really held a starting assignment over a full MLB season -- he's topped 500 plate appearances only twice in his career, with his career high being 545 -- and the Marlins' late signing of Jose Iglesias would give them an option at shortstop if Wendle proves he's better suited for a utility role. That said, Wendle hit 11 home runs in 2021 and stole 12 bases in 2022, so he has the skills to be a fantasy asset as a late-round pick if he can keep his starting job.

Wendle will remain at the top of the depth chart at shortstop for the Marlins despite the acquisition of Luis Arraez from the Twins on Thursday, as Jazz Chisholm will shift to center field, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Following a spate of recent moves, Miami's infield now figures to feature Jean Segura at third base, Wendle at shortstop and Arraez at second base. The team does have other infield options however, such as Garrett Hampson, Jon Berti and Jordan Groshans, so the Marlins could look to trade Wendle as well after he had a .259/.297/.360 slash line with three home runs, 32 RBI and 12 steals in 101 games last season.

Wendle agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Miami declined Wendle's $6.6 million mutual option for 2023 in November, but he remained under team control and will have a slightly lower salary. The 32-year-old had a .259/.27/.360 slash line with three homers and 12 steals in 101 games last season, and he could open 2023 as the Marlins' starting shortstop after Miguel Rojas was shipped to the Dodgers.

Wendle's $6.6 million mutual option was declined by Miami on Tuesday, but he remains with the team for his final year of arbitration eligibility, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins still retain team control over Wendle and likely expect to be able to bring him back at a lower salary. He's coming off a down season in which he hit .259/.297/.360 but should be able to continue filling a part-time role.
