Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Gallo (hamstring) could be cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment later this week, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Washington had planned for Gallo to take reps at first base and in right field over the weekend, and if his left hamstring responded well to the defensive work, he'll likely get the green light to report to a minor-league affiliate. Gallo has been on the shelf since June 12 with the hamstring strain, so he'll likely need multiple games in the minors to regain his timing at the plate before making his return from the 10-day injured list. Juan Yepez and Alex Call are currently serving as the Nationals' primary options at first base and right field, respectively, but both have fared well during their latest stints in the big leagues. If Washington wants to keep carving out regular playing time Yepez and Call once Gallo returns, the Nationals could look to use Gallo at designated hitter, where the lefty-hitting Travis Blankenhorn has been filling the strong side of a platoon lately.

Gallo (hamstring) could begin a running program next week, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo resumed baseball activities earlier this month, but running will be the big test as he comes back from a strained left hamstring that has sidelined him since June 11. He will require a rehab assignment before returning and wouldn't seem to be guaranteed anything in regards to playing time upon his activation.

Gallo (hamstring) participated in batting practice Tuesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Dave Martinez noted that Gallo has also resumed fielding groundballs within the past week, though the 30-year-old still has yet to run the bases since beginning a running program June 24. Gallo will almost certainly need to embark on a rehab assignment before he can return to the Nationals, but he seems to still have some hurdles to clear before he can begin playing in minor-league games.

Gallo (hamstring) has started a light running program, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo suffered a significant hamstring strain June 11 and he's been on the 10-day injured list since. The running program is the first substantial step in his recovery and he'll likely have to ramp up his workload over a series of days prior to considering a rehab assignment.

Manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Gallo's MRI revealed a "significant hamstring strain," Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Martinez didn't give a return timeline for Gallo, simply saying that the 30-year-old will be out for "a while." Joey Meneses has been acting as Washington's primary first baseman since Gallo landed on the injured list Wednesday, but it's possible the Nationals decide to add someone from their farm system or outside the organization to help split the workload.

The Nationals placed Gallo on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo exited Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers due to the injury. The Nationals haven't revealed the grade of Gallo's hamstring strain, but the injury is clearly significant enough that he won't be available for at least the next 10 days. Trey Lipscomb was called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace Gallo on the 26-man active roster and will be an option at first base along with Joey Meneses.

Manager Dave Martinez said that Gallo pulled his left hamstring during Tuesday's win over the Tigers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo was grabbing at his hamstring after grounding out in the seventh inning, and he was immediately replaced at first base by Joey Meneses. Martinez said the Nationals will know more about the severity of Gallo's injury Wednesday, but the team will likely bring a minor-leaguer onto its taxi squad in case he needs to go on the injured list.

Gallo is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo started against a lefty earlier this week, but he will begin Friday's game on the bench as Atlanta turns to southpaw Chris Sale as its starting pitcher. Joey Meneses will start at first base for the Nationals.

Gallo went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 8-7 loss to the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Gallo launched his fifth home run of the season, but he has seen his playing time decrease over the past week. The 30-year-old has started just four of the past seven contests following a streak of 10-consecutive starts. Gallo will need to clean up his dismal .156 average and 45 percent strikeout rate to garner consistent playing time moving forward.

Gallo isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Saturday's game agianst Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Following an 0-for-3 performance in the first game of the series Friday, Gallo will take a seat Saturday despite the Guardians sending right-hander Ben Lively to the mound. Joey Meneses will take on first base duties instead and bat fifth.
