Ross (elbow) and the Nationals avoided arbitration Tuesday, agreeing to terms on a one-year, $2.4 million deal, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ross gets a raise of just shy of $1 million after a strong 2021 season. He struck out a career-high 23.7 percent of opposing batters across a career-high 108 innings, helping him to a 4.17 ERA, his best mark since 2016. It's unclear what he'll be able to offer the Nationals this season, however, as he'll miss at least the first two months of the season after undergoing surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Ross (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery in early March to remove a bone spur from his right elbow, and he'll now be out for at least the first two months of the season. Paolo Espino should now compete for a rotation spot along with non-roster invitees Anibal Sanchez and Aaon Sanchez.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Sunday that Ross will be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery March 7 to remove a bone spur from his elbow, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ross missed the final six weeks of the 2021 campaign due to a partial UCL tear in his right elbow, and he recently experienced a setback in his recovery, which prompted the surgery. The 28-year-old covered 108 frames in 20 games last season and had a 4.17 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 109:34 K:BB, so his absence to start the campaign will be a significant hit to Washington's rotation depth.

The Nationals transferred Ross (elbow) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Washington already shut Ross down for the season earlier this month when he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow, so the transaction was merely made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver pickup Mike Ford. Ross is expected to avoid the second Tommy John surgery of his career and will treat the elbow injury through rest and rehab throughout the winter. The Nationals are hopeful that he'll be back to full strength for the start of spring training.

Ross (elbow) won't pitch again this season but will not require Tommy John surgery, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ross received about as positive of an opinion as he could hope for following a recent doctor's visit to examine his partially torn UCL. The injury isn't bad enough to require surgery, with the Nationals hoping that he'll be ready to go for the start of next season following an extended period of rest. The righty had a decent season, finishing the year with a 4.17 ERA, but he's going to be tough to trust heading into next year, as the track record for pitchers who initially avoid surgery for serious arm issues is far from perfect. Toss in Ross's own health history (he's yet to reach even 20 stars in any of his six big-league seasons) and it becomes tough to have much optimism.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Ross will be placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a flexor pronator strain in his right forearm and a partial UCL tear in his right elbow, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ross was initially diagnosed with right forearm tightness coming out of his long-relief appearance Wednesday in the resumption of Tuesday's suspended game against the Mets, but a follow-up MRI revealed the UCL tear. According to Martinez, Ross is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the coming days, and Tommy John surgery could be a possibility for the right-hander, who previously underwent the procedure in July 2018. Even if surgery is ruled out this time around, Ross will likely be shut down for an extended period and likely won't pitch again in 2021. Assuming that's the case, he'll wrap up the campaign with a 5-9 record, 4.17 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 109:34 K:BB in 108 frames.

Ross covered five innings and gave up four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Mets, a game Washington and New York resumed Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Ross was technically making his first relief appearance of the season, as he stepped in to replace starter Paolo Espino, who pitched the first inning Tuesday before the contest was suspended in the top of the second due to inclement weather. Though Washington staked him to a 4-1 lead by the time he took the mound, Ross didn't hold up to his end of the bargain, as the Mets plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Ross was still in line for the win after departing in the bottom of the seventh with Washington up 7-5, but the Nationals bullpen blew the two-run advantage to saddle him with a no-decision. Ross is expected to work as a traditional starter in his next outing, which will likely come Tuesday at home versus the Blue Jays.

Ross will start Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, which will pick up in the second inning after the contest was suspended due to inclement weather Tuesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ross was originally slated to start Wednesday night's contest, but he'll instead be in prime position to pick up a win while taking over during the second frame of the suspended game with the Nationals leading 3-1. The right-hander has a 3.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 42:9 K:BB in 35.2 innings across his past six starts. The Nationals have yet to decide who will start Game 2 of the impromptu twin bill.

Ross went 6.1 innings Thursday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on five hits and a pair of walks with seven strikeouts. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Ross pitched into the seventh inning for the fourth time in his last six starts but gave way to the bullpen after Odubel Herrera's RBI single pulled the Phillies to within 5-3. The outing pushed Ross passed the 100-innings threshold for the first time since 2016. He's 5-9 in 19 starts this season, logging a 4.02 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 107:33 K:BB in 103 frames.

Ross (5-9) took the loss Saturday, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk over 4.1 innings as the Nationals fell 6-3 to the Cubs. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander might be the Nats' de facto ace right now with Max Scherzer in Los Angeles and Stephen Strasburg (neck) having undergone thoracic outlet surgery this week, but he didn't pitch like it Saturday. Ross tossed 54 of 84 pitches for strikes in his shortest outing since May 26, and he'll take a 4.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 100:31 K:BB through 96.2 innings into his next start.
