Boyle (3-6) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the A's fell 9-5 to the Brewers. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
It was a typical outing for Boyle, as he generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 104 pitches but issued at least three free passes for the seventh straight start in the majors, a streak that stretches back into April. The 25-year-old righty has a 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 15 innings over three outings since getting called back up, but Oakland will let him work through his control issues in the hopes that he can emerge as a reliable rotation option. Boyle is scheduled to make his next start on the road next weekend against the Rangers.

Boyle (3-5) earned the win over Tampa Bay on Monday, allowing two hits and issuing three walks while striking out six batters over six scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
Both of the hits Boyle gave up were singles, and he didn't allow any runner to reach third base until his final frame. The right-hander recorded his first quality start of the campaign and tied his season high with six punchouts. Boyle returned from the minors last Tuesday and allowed four runs in four innings but was given another turn in the rotation, so it stands to reason that he'll remain in a starting role for the big club given his bounce-back performance Monday. He's tentatively scheduled to face Milwaukee at home this weekend.

Boyle is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Rays at Oakland Coliseum.
EDGE Analysis
After getting recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas last Tuesday, Boyle immediately stepped into the rotation as a replacement for Ross Stripling, who was sent to the bullpen. In his first start of Oakland since May 5, Boyle took a no-decision in a 9-4 win over the Mets, striking out six over four innings while allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks. Through eight outings overall in the big leagues this season, Boyle owns a 2-5 record and 7.39 ERA across 31.2 innings.

Boyle came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Mets, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first MLB appearance since May 5, Boyle had his usual trouble finding the plate consistently, tossing 54 of 85 pitches for strikes while also hitting a batter and uncorking a wild pitch, but he also generated 29 called or swinging strikes. The 25-year-old right-hander figures to remain in the Oakland rotation the rest of the way in 2024, but he has a long way to go to be of interest in most fantasy formats given his 7.39 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 17.1 percent walk rate through his first 31.2 big-league innings. Boyle lines up to make his next start at home early next week against the Rays.

The Athletics recalled Boyle from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Tuesday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Boyle hasn't pitched for the Athletics since May 5 after stumbling to a 7.16 ERA in seven starts to open up the season. He hasn't fared much better at Triple-A, logging a 5.63 ERA across 38.1 innings. Boyle has yielded 57 walks across 66 combined innings between Oakland and Las Vegas. However, he's turned things around recently, allowing just two runs over his last three starts (15.2 innings) while posting a 30:7 K:BB.

Boyle has posted a 9.00 ERA and issued nine walks over the five innings covering his two starts with Triple-A Las Vegas since being optioned June 5 following his IL stint due to a lower-back issue.
EDGE Analysis
Boyle had wrapped up a rehab assignment with the Aviators by surrendering just two hits over 5.1 scoreless innings across his last two appearances, but his control has deteriorated since officially joining the affiliate's roster. Boyle actually allowed just one hit over 4.1 innings in a June 9 start against El Paso, yet the four walks he issued in that outing helped lead to three runs (two earned) surrendered. The right-hander then had 13 days between starts before returning to the mound Saturday against Tacoma, when he was chased after just two-thirds of an inning after conceding three earned runs on five walks without allowing a hit. Free passes were also largely Boyle's undoing at the big-league level earlier this season -- he generated a 7.5 BB/9 across 27.2 innings with the Athletics -- underscoring how much work the 24-year-old still needs before a return to the majors is considered.

The Athletics reinstated Boyle (back) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
EDGE Analysis
A strained back kept Boyle on the shelf since early May, but he was activated after making three rehab starts with Triple-A Las Vegas. He allowed four earned runs in 5.1 total innings while striking out six batters and walking six over the three starts. Boyle had turned in a 7.16 ERA through seven starts with the Athletics prior to being deactivated, so he'll stick around at Las Vegas and will likely need to show improved control over multiple outings before he gets another look in the big-league rotation.

Boyle (back) started Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Tuesday, firing three scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and issued two walks while recording three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Boyle worked up to 58 pitches -- 35 of which he located for strikes -- in his second consecutive scoreless multi-inning rehab outing. The right-hander appears to be ready for activation based on his solid body of work over that pair of starts, and an injury-riddled Athletics starting rotation would undoubtedly benefit from his return.

Boyle (back) will make another rehab start at Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boyle built up to 43 pitches during his previous rehab start Wednesday, and he'll officially remain in the minors for at least one more start as he continues to build toward a starter's workload. The 24-year-old right-hander gave up four runs without recording an out during his first Triple-A outing May 23, but he bounced back with 2.1 scoreless frames in his second appearance while striking out three batters and walking two.

Boyle (back) started Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Sugar Land on Wednesday and fired 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while recording three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
To label Boyle's start Wednesday an exponential improvement over his rehab debut last Thursday would be an understatement, considering the young right-hander didn't even record an out in that encounter with Triple-A Tacoma. Boyle was downright cruising in that context Wednesday, firing 25 of his 43 pitches for strikes -- and averaging 100.1 mph with his four-seamer per MLB.com -- during a much-needed confidence-building effort. Manager Mark Kotsay noted after the outing that Boyle felt as if he'd "turned a corner" with his back injury, but it remains to be seen if he'll get one more rehab outing before being activated.
