Winker has failed to record a hit in his 13 spring at-bats, but manager David Bell isn't concerned, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
When asked if there was concern over Winker's struggles this spring, Bell stated, "No, I'm not. I'm not at all. I wish I had a better way to explain why spring training results -- I don't look too much into them." While Bell has previously said he would like to get Winker regular at-bats this season, the outfield in Cincinnati is potentially crowded with the likes of Matt Kemp and Scott Schebler also fighting for playing time. The situation will only get further complicated when top prospect Nick Senzel joins the team.

Winker hit the second pitch of Friday's spring training game out of the park for his second homer of the spring. Before the game, he mentioned how his shoulder felt stronger, and how he was able to lift the ball with authority, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Winker is part of the Reds' leadoff picture, depending on who makes the team (don't worry, he's making the team - just a question of whether Nick Senzel will also be there) and is in the lineup on a given night. Scott Schebler is also an option. "It's just depending on how our roster shapes up," manager David Bell said. "Getting on base is important factor for a leadoff hitter. Those are two guys who can do that."

Winker went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Thursday against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Winker clubbed a two-run homer over the fence in right field to cap off a four-run third inning. After going hitless in his first spring game, he showed signs of life at the dish in a 10-8 loss to the Brewers.

Winker played in his first spring training game Tuesday, going 0-for-2 against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The results aren't what matters for now - it was just good that Winker was able to play. "He was really happy to be out there," manager David Bell said to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. "He's worked so hard to get out there, and he said it just felt great. It was great to see him."

Winker will make his spring training debut Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Winker and Nick Senzel have sat out the first couple of spring training games. Reds manager David Bell said that there's no injury to Senzel or Winker to explain their respective delayed spring training debuts, only that he wanted them to get more live batting practice first.

Reds manager David Bell said Monday that he expects Winker to get 500+ at-bats, the John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "Not so much does he need it. . ." Bell said. "He does need to continue to develop, but we want him to contribute at that level and as an everyday player. Again, it's challenging having a lot of guys that can contribute, but I'm confident that it will work out. I really am. He's going to be a big part of what we're doing."
EDGE Analysis
The Reds have a crowded outfield, but they are committed to playing Winker regularly. And why wouldn't they, after seeing him post a .299/.405/.431 line last year? The primary obstacle for him is health, not competition.

Winker (shoulder) said Friday at Redsfest that he's thrilled with the progress that he's made this offseason at the Reds' spring training facility in Arizona, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports. "My rehab is pretty much over at this point," Winker said. "It's been over for a couple of weeks now. All I'm really doing is shoulder work to maintain. I've started my training, so everything has gone great. Everything has gone smooth. It's gone exactly how everybody involved has wanted it to go, so I'm very excited about that."
EDGE Analysis
This is great news, but pump the brakes just a little bit - Winker hasn't yet swung a bat and won't be cleared to do so until Jan. 7. The Reds have cleared the runway for Winker to play every day this season, though the news that they said good-bye to Billy Hamilton doesn't mean that Winker will play center field. He doesn't really have the range for that. But eventually they will probably have an outfield that's starting both he and Nick Senzel.

Winker underwent surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati reports.
EDGE Analysis
Winker was declared out for the season last week and was moved to the 60-day disabled list Monday, but still is expected to be ready for spring training. Mason Williams and Phillip Ervin will continue to garner starts in the outfield with Scott Schebler (shoulder) still on the disabled list and Adam Duvall traded to the Braves.

Winker (shoulder) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move is merely a procedural one, with Winker already having been ruled out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. Winker is expected to be ready to go by spring training.

Winker will have surgery on his shoulder and will miss the rest of the season, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
President of baseball operations Dick Williams said Winker will be ready for spring training next year, but that his 2018 season is over. He suffered a right shoulder subluxation earlier this week. Winker is not a good defender in the outfield, but his recent production at the plate had earned him a spot in the heart of the Reds' order. He finishes the season with a .299/.405/.431 slash line, seven home runs and more walks (49) than strikeouts (46) in 334 plate appearances. His absence will open up more consistent playing time for Adam Duvall and Scott Schebler (shoulder), who is expected back soon.
