Vargas allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four batters through six innings during Wednesday's win over Seattle. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
This was just the second outing all season that Vargas has surrendered more than three runs. He was just recently named to the All-Star game for the first time in his career and is providing high-end fantasy results with a 12-3 record, 2.62 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. The veteran lefty's 6.6 K/9 is a little low, but his consistency to this point in the season helps mitigate his lack of punchouts. Vargas projects to face the Rangers at Kauffman Stadium in his next start.

Vargas was named an AL All-Star, and will compete in his first Midsummer Classic next week in Miami.
EDGE Analysis
After Tommy John surgery limited the veteran to just 12 starts over the previous two years, Vargas has stormed back in a big way this season. Entering Wednesday, the southpaw led the AL in wins (12) and ERA (2.29). He also ranked in the league's top-10 for innings pitched (102) and WHIP (1.13). With a large sample size now in place, it's safe to say Vargas should be rostered across all formats.

Vargas (12-3) allowed only one run on two hits and four walks over seven innings while striking out four in Friday's 8-1 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty threw only 60 of 100 pitches for strikes but got plenty of run support en route to his AL-leading 12th win. Vargas has now delivered quality starts in an incredible 12 of 16 trips to the mound this year, and will get one more start Wednesday in Seattle before his almost certain appearance in the All-Star Game.

Vargas (11-3) allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out two across seven innings to earn the victory Saturday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas was touched up for single runs in the fourth and seventh innings, but otherwise had little trouble holding down the Blue Jays while receiving just enough run support for him to notch his 11th victory of the campaign. He's now collected victories in each of his last six starts while maintaining a 2.29 ERA, and he continues to be one of the very best pitching options in the fantasy world. He'll make his next start Friday against the Twins.

Vargas (10-3) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts pver six innings in a win Sunday over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas has now won five straight games and has allowed three runs or less in all five. His control has been impeccable -- Vargas has walked just seven batters in 32.2 innings over this current hot streak, which has been the main driver behind his 2.14 ERA over those five starts. In a shocker to pundits across the nation, with Sunday's win, Vargas becomes the league's first pitcher to 10 wins.

Vargas (9-3) allowed one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings during Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Giants. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas's resurgent season hummed along Tuesday as the 34-year-old was in control of Giants hitters from the first inning onward as he led the Royals to their third consecutive victory. His rock solid performance dropped his season ERA to a dazzling 2.10 on the year. The left-handed hurler has positioned himself as one of the most intriguing potential trade chips as we head towards the July 31 trade deadline. Vargas will look to stay hot during his date with the Angels on Sunday.

Vargas (8-3) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five batters during Wednesday's win over Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas is proving his early-season dominance has long legs with four consecutive strong outings against the who's who of the American League. He's faced the Yankees, Indians (twice) and Astros during the four-game stretch and allowed just seven runs over 25.2 innings for a 2.45 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He's never going to pile up many strikeouts, but his 7.1 K/9 is serviceable. Vargas projects to face the Giants at AT&T Park in his next start.

Vargas (7-3) blanked Cleveland over nine innings in Friday's 4-0 win, allowing seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up 11 runs over 15.2 innings in his last three starts, Vargas returned to his surprising early-season form and recorded his first shutout since 2014 and the seventh of his career. The veteran lefty just missed twirling a Maddux, needing 103 pitches (69 strikes) to complete the gem, and and the outing lowering his ERA back to 2.08 on the season. Vargas will next take the mound Wednesday at home against the Astros.

Vargas won three of six starts while managing a 3.12 ERA over 34.2 innings in May.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, the veteran's numbers dipped from his amazing performance in the season's opening month (1.40 ERA over 25.2 innings). Vargas' May strikeout and walk rates of 15.8 and 8.9 percent, respectively, were way off the 28.9 and 2.1 percent marks he posted in April. That said, the southpaw's overall ERA (2.39), WHIP (1.13) and FIP (3.38) are among some of the best in MLB. Vargas is walking a fine line, though, as his 83.9 percent strand rate ranks in the AL's top-five, and that leaves him with little room for error.

Vargas (6-3) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas snapped a personal two-game losing streak by defeating the Indians Saturday afternoon. Despite allowing a season-high nine hits, Vargas was able to hold the opponent to two or fewer runs for the seventh time. After missing most of 2016 following Tommy John surgery, Vargas has been one of the biggest surprises in the American League. He ranks third in the AL in wins, while his 2.39 ERA ranks fourth. Vargas will look to beat the Indians again in his next start, this time facing Josh Tomlin.
