Motte (shoulder) is expected to start playing catch in the next few days, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Motte is reportedly feeling pain-free, but the Rockies are taking the cautious approach by giving the veteran reliever plenty of time to heal his shoulder. A timetable for his return has yet to be set, but things should become clearer as he progresses in his rehab process.

Motte (shoulder) started strengthening work Monday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
EDGE Analysis
He remains out indefinitely, and has not yet progressed to baseball activities. Jake McGee has the closer job well in hand while Motte is out.

Motte (shoulder) has been placedd on the 15-day disabled list.
EDGE Analysis
Out indefinitely with a shoulder sprain, the Rockies bullpen enters 2016 somewhat depleted with Motte among a number of relievers beginning the season on the DL. When he returns to action, the 33-year-old will likely take a spot at the back end of the rotation. Even when healthy, his fantasy utility will likely be limited to leagues that employ holds as a stat unless Motte were to take over the closer role.

Motte is out indefinitely with a shoulder strain, the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports.
EDGE Analysis
He is likely to miss the opener, in which case he will probably start the year on the DL. This means Jake McGee will be the de facto closer to open the year, as he had been in competition with Motte. Continue to monitor Motte's status for a better timetable for how long he could be sidelined.

Motte has allowed two hits and two runs while striking out three batters through four innings pitched this spring.
EDGE Analysis
Motte has held hitters to a .143 batting average this spring, so the two runs allowed are not the best reflection of how well the right-hander has been pitching this spring. He's also been showcasing his historically-good control, as he hasn't walked a batter so far. Motte is currently in the running to be the closer for Colorado, although he has some tough competition for the job in left-hander Jake McGee. Getting the closer role would be a boon to Motte's fantasy value, but he'll have to continue pitching well in order to claim that position for himself.

Motte (shoulder) has agreed to a two-year deal with the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
It's believed that the deal is worth a total of $10 million. The Rockies announced the deal with Motte along with a two-year pact with fellow veteran reliever Chad Qualls on Tuesday morning. Considering the lack of an established closer in Colorado at the present time, it seems likely that Motte or Qualls will become the team's primary ninth-inning option over the likes of Jairo Diaz.

Motte (shoulder) left the Cubs on Saturday to continue his rehab at the team's complex in Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Motte is not expected to be ready for Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, but he might be able to return if the Cubs advance to the NLDS. He's been on the DL since Aug. 24.

Motte (shoulder) has been throwing on flat ground, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has not started throwing off a mound yet, and therefore he probably won't be able to log too many appearances before the end of the season.

Motte struck out one during a clean ninth inning Sunday against the Marlins to earn his fourth save of the season. The hard-throwing righty is one of several late-inning options in the Cubs' bullpen but has now earned two saves in his last three appearances. Motte will continue to serve as part of a closer by committee for the time being, but his 2.82 ERA and 1.06 WHIP make him a worthy candidate whenever a save situation does arise.
