Junk (1-0) picked up the win Saturday, scattering two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings of relief in a 4-3 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old right-hander was the fourth Miami pitcher to take the mound on the afternoon, entering the game with one out and two men on in the third inning, and Junk nearly tossed the equivalent of a quality start as the bulk reliever on just 64 pitches (42 strikes). He retired the first 10 batters he faced and didn't allow a runner to get into scoring position, before handing things off to the high-leverage crew for the ninth inning. Junk has made five appearances this season, all out of the bullpen, and posted an impressive 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB in 22.2 innings. The Marlins are short a starting pitcher at the moment with Ryan Weathers (lat) and Max Meyer (hip) on the IL, and they don't get another off day until June 23, so Junk seems very likely to plug that hole at some point next week, either in a traditional start or as a primary pitcher once again.

Junk gave up three hits and struck out five over four scoreless relief innings in Friday's loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
After Cal Quantrill provided the Marlins with five good innings, Junk finished up the 2-0 loss and gave the rest of the bullpen a much-needed night off. The 29-year-old righty has made two appearances for Miami since being called up May 24, allowing just one run over nine innings with a 9:1 K:BB. While the team doesn't have an opening in its rotation right now and should get Eury Perez (elbow) back in early June, Junk is making a case for an audition as a starter at some point down the road.

Junk allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings to earn the save in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Junk was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier in the day to provide reinforcements in the bullpen. He delivered with a lengthy outing after Cal Quantrill was curiously pulled after just 3.1 innings (46 pitches). Junk threw 48 of his 68 pitches for strikes and was credited with a five-inning save in his season debut at the major-league level. He has worked as a starter with Jacksonville this season, but barring a severe run of injuries to Miami's starters, Junk doesn't have a clear path to a starting role in the majors any time soon. Between the Brewers and Athletics last season, he made six relief appearances, posting a 14.62 ERA over eight innings.

The Marlins selected Junk's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Junk has spent the entire season in the minors, turning in a 2.78 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 45.1 innings. Riding plenty of momentum, he'll now get another chance to prove himself in the big leagues, likely as a long relief option. Lake Bachar was optioned to Jacksonville to make room on the active roster, and Rob Brantly (lat) was moved to the 60-day IL to create a 40-man spot.

The Marlins reassigned Junk to minor-league camp Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Junk will finish Grapefruit League play with a 5.23 ERA and 1.06 WHIP alongside a 10:4 K:BB over 10.1 innings. He became a candidate to begin the season in Miami's rotation once Ryan Weathers went down with a forearm injury, but it now seems the Marlins will look elsewhere to fill their fifth rotation slot. Junk will presumably still be stretched out into a starter with Triple-A Jacksonville to provide extra organizational depth, though his fantasy appeal will be minimal if he finds his way back into the big leagues.

Junk (back) gave up one run on one hit and two walks over 3.2 innings in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros before leaving the game accompanied by a trainer. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old right-hander appears to be the next man up in the Marlins' rotation with Ryan Weathers (forearm) set to begin the season on the IL, and Junk got stretched out to 55 pitches (35 strikes) as he prepares for the role. His body may not have been ready for that increased workload, as per Chuck King of MLB.com, back spams forced him from the contest. He doesn't think the issue will linger, however. "Just kind of one of those weird over-extension things, and doing some treatment modalities and stuff, it already feels better," he said after the game. Miami will be Junk's fourth team in five years since he made his big-league debut in 2021, and his last name accurately reflects the lack of fantasy appeal in his arsenal -- he's got a 6.75 ERA and 34:11 K:BB over 40 career MLB innings.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Thursday that Junk will be stretched out in the wake of the injury to Ryan Weathers (forearm), Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Connor Gillispie had already seemed likely to take Edward Cabrera's (blister) spot in the rotation, and now Junk might be the favorite to open the season among the team's starting five as well. Junk has made one start and four relief appearances this spring, allowing six runs with a 10:4 K:BB over 10.1 frames. The 29-year-old has made seven starts and eight relief appearances at the big-league level, compiling a 6.75 ERA.

Junk signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Junk's deal includes an invitation to big-league spring training, where he'll get the chance to compete for a spot in Miami's Opening Day bullpen. The 29-year-old has seen MLB action in each of the last four campaigns, but he hasn't covered more than 17 innings in any of those seasons while bouncing around across five different organizations. Over his 15 career MLB appearances (seven starts) spanning 40 innings, Junk owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.78 WHIP.

The Athletics outrighted Junk to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Junk will remain in the Oakland organization after he was recently designated for assignment for a third time this season. The 28-year-old right-hander has made six appearances at the big-league level in 2024 between Milwaukee and Oakland, logging a 14.62 ERA and 3.25 WHIP in eight innings.

The Athletics designated Junk for assignment Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Junk's lone appearance for the Athletics went as poorly as it could possibly go, as he was walloped for seven runs without recording an out in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners. He'll be replaced on the roster by Brady Basso.
