James Shields allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and two walks in seven innings of Sunday's 7-6 win over the Indians. Shields struck out five and served up a solo home run to Casey Kotchman in a no-decision. Shields has now completed at least seven innings of work in each of his past three starts, but also allowed at least 10 hits each time out. He'll enter the break the owner of a disappointing 4.17 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 109/34 K/BB ratio through 118 2/3 innings. He's pretty much splitting the difference between his awful 2010 and electric 2011.

James Shields was knocked around by the Tigers on Thursday, as he allowed four runs on 14 hits over 7 2/3 innings. He did manage to punch out six while walking just one in the game. This marked the second consecutive game in which Shields has allowed four earned runs or more, and it's the sixth time in his last nine outings. He'll take a 7-5 record and uncharacteristic 4.04 ERA with him when he takes on the Yankees at home on Tuesday.

James Shields limited the Marlins to seven hits and a walk over 7 2/3 innings Saturday. Shields fanned five in the game. Despite three early unearned runs that scored due to poor defense, he kept his composure and dominated the Marlins hitters for the remainder of the evening. It should have been Shields' second win over Miami in the last six days. He'll look to continue his string of impressive performances when he takes on the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.

James Shields held the Marlins to one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings Sunday, improving to 7-4 in Tampa's 4-2 win in Miami. Shields struck out five and walked three in just his second quality start in his past six outings. Thus far splitting the difference between his woeful 2010 and electric 2011, Shields is now the owner of a 4.06 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 81/29 K/BB ratio through his first 84 1/3 innings. He'll get the Marlins again next weekend, this time in Tampa.

James Shields struck out 10 while allowing three runs -- two earned -- in 7 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. It's the sixth straight start in which Shields has allowed at least three runs. He's still well above average, but his current 3.63 ERA and 1.27 WHIP aren't a match for last year's marks.

James Shields brought home a shaky victory in Sunday's 9-8 win over the Orioles, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Like most Rays starters have been in recent days, Shields was let down by some shaky defense, but today was still the fourth straight start he's allowed at least four runs. Regardless, his ERA remains a solid 3.52 through 53 2/3 innings, while he'll bring a 1.25 WHIP and 48/17 K/BB ratio into his Friday outing against the Braves.

James Shields improved to 5-0 on Wednesday, though he did surrender four runs on five hits over six innings against the Mariners. He struck out eleven and walked four in the game. Kyle Seager was responsible for all of the damage against him, with a pair of homers and four RBI. Shields became the first five game winner in the majors this season, though he'll soon be joined by Lance Lynn of the Cardinals. He'll look to continue his dominance and pick up his sixth victory when he takes on the Yankees in New York on Tuesday.

James Shields allowed four hits over 8 1/3 innings as the Rays edged the Red Sox 1-0 on Monday to avoid a four-game sweep in Boston. Shields was in control right from the start today. All four hits were singles, and he walked just two batters in improving to 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA. Despite facing three top offenses (he was matched up against the Yankees and Tigers in his first two starts), Shields has surrendered just one homer so far.

James Shields held the Tigers to two runs on six hits and one walk in eight innings of Wednesday's 4-2 win. He fanned five. Shields appeared headed for a complete-game loss before Justin Verlander came unraveled in the ninth, allowing the Rays to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory. Today was a marked improvement on Shields' Opening Day start against the Yankees, where he allowed six runs on nine hits in just five innings. He's in line to get the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Monday.
