Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton (back) had his back stiffen up on him on Sunday after a 35-pitch bullpen session on Saturday. Manager Scott Servais is confident that the issue is minor and that Paxton can return from the disabled list to make a start in the next five to six days. Paxton has been the team's best starter this year and is 8-4 with a 3.70 ERA, 1.09 [...]

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton (back) has been scratched from Tuesday's start against the San Francisco Giants. He was expected to come off the 10-day DL, but the team has decided to not bring him back yet. Roenis Elias will draw the start against the Giants on Tuesday. He's a risky DFS option in an emergency start.

Welcome back to Rotoballer's series using Statcast to extrapolate, dig into, and commiserate over data to examine pitching performances. The weekly series will be dynamic as we fine-tune our findings and enlighten ourselves on the information and tools at our disposal. It's All-Star Week so rather than approaching the column in typical fashion, we'll use this edition for reflection, savoring and reprimanding yours truly for my calls to-date. It's been an immensely fun and rewarding exercise t[...]

James Paxton's Injured Isn't Believed To Be Serious rotoballer.com Fri 7/13/18 8:38 AM

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton's (back) lower back stiffness isn't believed to be "lingering issue," according to general manager Jerry Dipoto. However, Dipoto said Paxton will go on the disabled list, but the plan is to bring him back for the fourth game of the second half against the Giants. Paxton allowed three runs in just two-thirds of an inning against the Angels on Thursday and left the game. This is good news for Paxton, though, as the team's ace shouldn't miss much time[...]

James Paxton Leaves Start With Back Stiffness rotoballer.com Thu 7/12/18 6:55 PM

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton (back) left his start Thursday early with lower back stiffness and tossed just 17 pitches over two-thirds of an inning against the Angels. That's obviously not good news for the Canadian left-hander, but at least the All-Star break next week will give him extra time to rest if it's a serious injury. Paxton was having a fine season with an 8-3 record, 3.49 ERA, 1.07 [...]
