The Cut List (Week 18): Time to Let Go? rotoballer.com Sun 7/29/18 4:00 AM

Welcome to Week 18 of the Cut List. I'm your guest host this time around, filling in for usual steward Conor McElheney. Longtime RotoBallers may recall that I covered this beat last season. Hopefully your remembrances aren't rooted in anger after I gave you bad advice!  The format this year is a bit different, but the general idea is the same. These four players are guys you should consider replacing if they currently occupy a spot on your roster.  Want some waiver wire advice to make up[...]

Jake Junis Becomes A Pariah In New York rotoballer.com Fri 7/27/18 10:32 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis was unable to overcome some defensive miscues and took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday, but that's not what any of the fans care about. Junis also plunked reigning King of New York Aaron Judge on the right wrist, chipping a bone and robbing the fans of his monster presence for at least a few weeks. Junis will hope to forget this outing as quickly as possible, but it's unlikely he'll get a very warm reception next time he pitches in the Br[...]

Jake Junis To Start Saturday rotoballer.com Thu 7/19/18 7:40 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis (back) will come off the disabled list to start against the Twins on Saturday. Danny Duffy is starting Friday and Brad Keller will close out the series on Sunday. The team plans to keep Burch Smith and Heath Fillmyer in the rotation until Ian Kennedy (oblique) is back from injury. Junis has been out since July 8. He had a 3.62 ERA in his first 12 starts but has allowed 28 runs and 12 long balls in 27 innings since in five losses. Even in a goo[...]

Statcast Pitcher Risers/Fallers - Statcast Scoreboard (Week 16) rotoballer.com Tue 7/17/18 3:45 AM

Welcome back to Rotoballer's series using Statcast to extrapolate, dig into, and commiserate over data to examine pitching performances. The weekly series will be dynamic as we fine-tune our findings and enlighten ourselves on the information and tools at our disposal. It's All-Star Week so rather than approaching the column in typical fashion, we'll use this edition for reflection, savoring and reprimanding yours truly for my calls to-date. It's been an immensely fun and rewarding exercise t[...]

Jake Junis Scheduled To Return Saturday rotoballer.com Sat 7/14/18 9:03 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis is scheduled to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday. Manager Ned Yost is expecting him to start the second game of a double-header with the Twins that day. Junis has been sidelined with a back injury, but it seemed it was more of a breather to try to reset him after he had four bad starts in five outings. Junis is carrying a 5.13 ERA and shouldn't be owned for now.

Jake Junis Heading To 10-Day DL; Heath Fillmyer Starting Sunday rotoballer.com Sun 7/8/18 7:12 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis (back) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower back inflammation and will not make his start Sunday against the Red Sox. The move is retroactive to July 3, so Junis will be eligible to return July 13. Heath Fillmyer will make the spot start and pitcher Glenn Sparkman has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Junis should be held onto in dynasty leagues and leagues deeper than 12 teams. On the other side, Fillmy[...]

Jake Junis Gets Blasted Again rotoballer.com Wed 6/27/18 7:45 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis is finally on top. After giving up three more home runs on Tuesday, Junis has now allowed more home runs in 2018 than any other pitcher in baseball. He's given up 10 home runs in his last four outings, and he took his sixth straight loss on tuesday as the Royals fell to the Brewers. Junis is still young and hopefully this is just a phase, but no one should own him during this phase.

Jake Junis Gets Quality Start Against Rangers rotoballer.com Thu 6/21/18 10:09 AM

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jake Junis went six strong innings against the Rangers, allowing three runs and striking out four. He got the loss and walked four, which is concerning given that Junis averages just over two walks a start. Junis also threw just 55 of his 91 pitches in the strike zone. Junis continues to be hit or miss, and he will show flashes of brilliance in some starts. For the most part, he will give you a good amount of strikeouts and a chance of limiting his ERA, but ex[...]
