Arrieta was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Friday, retroactive to Aug. 19.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta suffered a mild left hamstring strain in Wednesday's start against Colorado and will miss at least one turn through the rotation. The right-hander struggled in the appearance, as he allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.1 innings, so he isn't guaranteed a spot in the Padres' rotation when he returns to full health.

Arrieta exited Wednesday's start against the Rockies with a mild left hamstring strain, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A trip to the injured list seems like a decent possibility for the righty, who allowed five runs on seven hits through 3.1 innings in his Padres debut. It's also possible Arrieta gets released, as he showed nothing before the injury to suggest he can solve San Diego's starting pitching woes. An update on his condition and roster status should become available in the next couple days.

Arrieta was removed from his start Wednesday in Colorado in the bottom of the fourth inning with an apparent hamstring injury, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. He worked 3.1 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three in his Padres debut.
EDGE Analysis
Even though Arrieta's second stint with the Cubs ended with him posting a 10.44 ERA over his final 10 starts, the Padres were still willing to bring the veteran right-hander aboard on a one-year deal with the hope that he could eat innings in a San Diego rotation that's been decimated by injuries. However, he lasted just 64 pitches into his inaugural start with San Diego before he became the latest injury casualty. The Padres will presumably send Arrieta in for follow-up tests to determine the extent of his injury, but if it's significant enough to cost him even one turn through the rotation, San Diego could opt to simply churn his 40-man roster spot for another healthy starter available in free agency.

Arrieta's contract was selected by the Padres on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta joined the Padres on a minor-league deal Monday, but he'll serve as an immediate reinforcement in the team's rotation that is dealing with various injuries. The right-hander was released by the Cubs last week after he posted a 10.44 ERA and 2.29 WHIP in 35.1 innings across 10 starts since the beginning of June. Arrieta will face a tough test in his team debut since he'll be forced to pitch at hitter-friendly Coors Field on Wednesday.

Arrieta, who agreed to a one-year contract with the Padres on Monday, is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Rockies in Colorado, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Yu Darvish (back) joined a slew of other starting candidates on the injured list Sunday, the Padres acted quickly to bring Arrieta aboard to add some experience to a depleted rotation. While the 2015 National League Cy Young Award winner brings name value to the Padres, he didn't resemble anything close to an MLB-caliber starter this season before he was released by the Cubs last week. Arrieta submitted a 6.88 ERA (6.12 FIP) and 1.76 WHIP over 20 starts with Chicago, and pitching at altitude in Coors Field for his first outing with San Diego could somehow make those ratios even uglier. The Padres will likely be counting on Arrieta to merely eat innings out of the rotation until at least one of Darvish or Chris Paddack (oblique) is cleared to return from the IL.

Arrieta agreed to a deal with the Padres on Monday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta's ERA has risen in six straight seasons and sits at an awful 6.88 through 20 starts this year, a mark which earned him a release from the Cubs last week. That's the sort of number produced by someone who's no longer a viable big-league starter, and it's certainly not a number one would expect to see in a contender's rotation, but the Padres found themselves desperate for innings after Yu Darvish landed on the injured list with a back issue Sunday. Arrieta may suddenly find himself in just about the best situation he could ask for, as he's now pitching for a strong team in one of the league's best pitchers' parks, but his talent level has dropped to the point that he remains uninteresting outside of very deep leagues even in these ideal circumstances.

Arrieta was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta gave up seven runs in the first inning of his start Wednesday against the Brewers in what will turn out to be his final outing as a Cub. He didn't come close to recapturing the magic which saw him win a World Series and a Cy Young and throw a pair of no-hitters in his previous stint with the team, as he'll end his encore performance with a 6.88 ERA over 20 starts. He could theoretically land somewhere as an innings eater for the stretch run, but he offers very little to a contender or to fantasy teams at this point in his career.

Arrieta (5-11) allowed eight runs on 11 hits across four innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Brewers. He walked two and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was ambushed for seven runs in the top of the first inning, and with Corbin Burnes dealing for Milwaukee, the Cubs let their veteran hurler stick around just to soak up some innings in an 8-0 defeat. Since returning from the injured list on July 30, Arrieta has allowed 14 earned runs in just 12 innings of work, pushing his season ERA to an unsightly 6.88. It's pretty hard to have much confidence in the 35-year-old at this point, including in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Reds.

Arrieta allowed four earned runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out two across four innings Thursday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was hit hard throughout the start and was fairly lucky to survive having surrendered four earned runs. He was taken yard three three times, the seventh consecutive outing he's allowed at least one homer. In that same span he has a disastrous 9.62 ERA and has been charged with four losses. For the season, Arrieta has a 6.34 ERA with a 71:37 K:BB across 82.1 frames.

Arrieta (5-10) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in four innings to take the loss against the Nationals on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was activated prior to Friday's contest after he was sidelined for just over three weeks due to right hamstring tightness. The right-hander bounced back slightly after he had allowed 13 runs (10 earned) in 3.1 innings across his last two outings, but he was still forced to settle for his fourth loss in his last six appearances. Arrieta tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Colorado on Thursday.
