Triple-A Louisville placed Hurtubise on its 7-day injured list Friday with an unspecified injury.

Hurtubise received his first taste of the big leagues in mid-May and stuck around with the Reds through June 21, when he was optioned to Louisville after going 0-for-14 over his final nine games with the big club. Since that time, Hurtubise turned in an underwhelming .215/.339/.290 slash line with one home run and eight stolen bases in 30 games with Louisville before succumbing to an injury.

The Reds optioned Hurtubise to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Hurtubise hadn't been seeing much playing time lately, so the Reds have concluded they have a better use for his roster spot. Austin Wynns has been added as a third catcher.

As a left-handed hitter, Hurtubise won't make for a viable platoon mate for the Reds' three lefty-hitting outfielders (Friedl, Will Benson and Jake Fraley) nor lefty-hitting designated hitter Nick Martini, so it wouldn't be surprising if Hurtubise is sent back to Triple-A Louisville before long if his playing time becomes scarce. The 26-year-old has posted a .582 OPS over 39 plate appearances since getting his first big-league call-up May 13.

Hurtubise went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.
