Yankees part owner Hal Steinbrenner said Friday that there's been "a conversation or two" with Robinson Cano's agent, Scott Boras, about a contract extension.

Steinbrenner wouldn't reveal more than that, other than to say that he hopes Cano remains a Yankee for the rest of his career. The Yankees typically don't extend players before they hit free agency, and the New York Post's Joel Sherman reported earlier this offseason that Boras' "strong inclination" is that Cano will play out the 2013 campaign before testing the free agent waters. Cano reportedly is seeking a deal in the range of 10 years and $200 million.
