Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he is not close to naming a closer and that it's possible he will go into the season without giving that designation to Miller or Dellin Betances, Newsday reports. While Betances has previously been suggested as the favorite for the job, it remains possible that Girardi will mix and match this season without settling on one reliever as a ninth-inning option. Miller has been significantly cheaper than Betances in drafts this spring, perhaps offering a cheap path to saves with a nice supply of strikeouts and good ratios, depending on the course Girardi opts to take with his shutdown relievers.
