Yankees designated OF Justin Maxwell for assignment. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Maxwell was limited to just 48 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder, batting .260/.358/.588 with 16 homers, 35 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a .945 OPS. He's a free swinger, but somebody might take a chance on him.
