Wright's knuckleball had more movement in his loss Saturday than it has had in previous starts this season, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports. "This was his best knuckleball he's had to date," manager John Farrell said.
EDGE Analysis
Wright, who failed to get out of the fourth inning in his previous start, sought help from assistant coach Brian Bannister to get his release point back and it had the desired effect. He threw his hardest knuckler all season, averaging 75 mph and touching 80 on several occasions, with the most movement its had in his five starts. Unfortunately, he got touched up two more home runs giving him nine homers allowed and an 8.25 ERA in 24 innings this season. If/when David Price (elbow) is ready to pitch again, Wright's spot in the rotation is in jeopardy.
