Wright allowed eight runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in Saturday night's loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
A couple of errors were in the mix during a five-run fifth inning that sealed Wright's fate, but the knuckleballer had trouble getting and staying ahead in the count. When he couldn't get the knuckleball consistently over the plate, Wright threw more fastballs and curveballs -- of his 98 pitches, 23 were fastballs and 19 curveballs. On a normal night, about 25 percent of his pitches are non-knuckleballs, not 43 percent. As such, Texas batters feasted on Wright, who managed just 4.2 innings, his shortest outing of the season by far. Fantasy owners can take solace in the low number of earned runs, but this is also a lesson in fickle nature of kncukleball hurlers. Wright's next scheduled start is this coming Friday at home against the Angels.
