Wieters became a free agent Monday after the Orioles did not extend him a qualifying offer, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wieters managed to stay healthy for the 2016 season, although his offensive numbers dipped. With this in mind, the Orioles thought that his acceptance was too big of a risk for them to take and instead will move on from the 30-year-old backstop. Wieters does hold 20-home run potential, though, and now that he won't cost a draft pick to be signed, he could garner a higher price on the free agent market.
