Weigel will consult with Dr. James Andrews this week after an MRI on his elbow revealed a possible torn ligament, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old seemed to be on the cusp of making his big-league debut after a promotion to Triple-A Gwinnett in early May, but the rest of his 2017 campaign is now in jeopardy after he came out of a nine-run implosion Sunday complaining of elbow soreness. The Braves will determine whether Tommy John surgery is required after Weigel's visit with Dr. Andrews, a procedure which could keep him out of action until next year's All-Star break.
