Wang allowed three hits and two walks with one strikeout over 4.2 scoreless innings in the Braves' split-squad loss to the Cardinals on Saturday. "He's got that sinker going and he's changing speeds on his breaking stuff," manager Fredi Gonzalez told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution afterward. "He did a nice job. Five innings of shutout baseball. We mad some nice plays behind him -- (Jace) Peterson made some nice plays -- but Wang has been impressive, he really has."
Wang had a hiccup last week, giving up three runs while recording just one out against Houston, but he's spun a combined 9.2 scoreless frames in his other three spring outings. Gonzalez said Friday that Wandy Rodriguez has essentially secure a rotation spot, meaning there is just one spot left between Wang, Eric Stults, Mike Foltynewicz, Manny Banuelos and Cody Martin. An important caveat to remember here is that Stults can opt out of his deal if not on the roster by Opening Day, while Wang can't opt out until July.
