Wandy Rodriguez surrendered three earned runs in six innings Thursday in a loss to the Cubs. Rodriguez yielded runs in the first, second, and third innings in an unimpressive 2014 debut. He struck out five batters and issued just one walk, but the balls he left over the plate were just far too hittable. The left-hander is trying to pitch with an arthritic elbow and the experiment is doubtful to go smoothly. The Pirates probably should have signed some reliable starting pitching this offseason.
