The 24-year-old singled in three trips Wednesday, but he also struck out, bringing his total this season to 48 in 159 at-bats. A corresponding move was not immediately announced, but Vargas' assignment to Chattanooga rather than Triple-A Rochester has fueled speculation that the team may be thinking about promoting prospect Miguel Sano.
