Vargas allowed two runs on nine hits, he didn't walk a batter, and struck out five over five innings, but came away with a no-decision as the Royals topped San Francisco 4-2 Friday night. Making just his second start since returning to the rotation following an appendectomy, it was a bend but don't break night for the southpaw. He needed 101 pitches (just 69 for strikes) to record 15 outs so there may still be a little residual rust from his month-long stay on the disabled list. He'll try to get on track in his next start at home against the tough Oakland A's.
