Vargas (9-5) tossed a three-hit shutout Wednesday against the Athletics. Vargas was straight nasty Wednesday, getting the first-place Royals back in the win column after losing only one game following an eight-game winning streak. The lefty ended the contest retiring 23 consecutive batters. Vargas toes the rubber Monday in Minnesota.
