Vargas (14-9) took another loss Wednesday after giving up five runs on seven hits -- including three homers -- to the Rays. He struck out one and walked one over six innings of work.
EDGE Analysis
After opening the season with a 13-4 record and a 3.00 ERA over his first 20 outings, Vargas is now 1-5 in his last six starts. It hasn't been bad luck -- the veteran lefty has been tagged for a fantasy-team-ruining 25 runs through 31.1 innings in that span. The long ball has been hurting him, and while his control wasn't bad Wednesday, this six-game stretch has seen him put up a 3.7 BB/9, hit two batters and throw three wild pitches. He's seriously hard to trust right now, but at least he'll get a good bit of rest before making his next start Tuesday in Detroit.
