Valbuena saw his first Cactus League action Sunday, starting at third base and going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a win over Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
Valbuena was brought in to provide left-handed power at the corners for the Angels. He underwent offseason surgery to repair his hamstring and he appears to be healthy heading into the season. The Angels have two right-handed players they feel comfortable starting everyday at the corners in Yunel Escobar and C.J. Cron, so a platoon may not be the easiest solution to playing time for Valbuena. Ultimately, it will come down to manager Mike Scioscia deciding how he wants to divide the playing time. Hopefully he gives a more concrete plan as we get closer to the season because both Valbuena and Cron have big power potential if either gets the majority of at-bats at first base.
