Uggla was diagnosed with oculomotor dysfunction in the offseason, stemming from incidents in June 2012 and March 2013 in which he got hit in the head by pitches, the Boston Globe reports. His vision was dropping from 20/15 to 20/100 whenever he moved his head or body, making it difficult for him to pick up the rotation of a pitch and causing him problems on defense. Uggla has now been declared free of the condition, which if true could make him an interesting dark horse candidate for the Nationals' second base job.
