Tim Stauffer was chased after just 2 2/3 innings Monday, yielding two runs on four hits and two walks in a loss to the Pirates. Stauffer was 2-0 with a 1.90 ERA early last week, but his fortunes, predictably, have changed abruptly. The right-hander was coming off one of the worst starts of his career, coughing up seven runs while recording just one out against the Snakes on Wednesday. Things went better this time around, but that's only by degrees -- he lasted just 71 pitches in Petco. Stauffer has allowed nine runs and secured only nine outs over his last two outings, but San Diego isn't sure it has anyone better to replace him. Stauffer hosts Washington this weekend.
