Tim Byrdak intends to pitch in 2014. Byrdak was working his way back from shoulder capsule surgery for most of 2013, but he managed to make it back to the Mets in September and plans to return for his age-40 season next year. "As far as competitiveness goes, Tim's up there with anyone," said Byrdak's agent, Mike Mosa. "He'll take the ball for you every day if you ask him to." The veteran southpaw may ultimately have to settle for a minor league deal, but he should compete for a bullpen spot somewhere in the spring.
