Thornburg is expected to throw off a bullpen mound "in the coming days" to work on mechanical issues, according to Boston manager John Farrell, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg's case is an odd one. The right-hander has not pitched in a game since March 1, but is not injured according to Farrell, who said Thornburg is in no danger of being left off the Opening Day roster. Farrell explained that Thornburg, like any pitcher new to the organization, has been going through Boston's shoulder-maintenance program and is currently adapting to that. The reliever's adjustment to Boston's program, which brought about a dead-arm period, is believed to be unrelated to the mechanical issues related to his timing.
