The Rays purchased Sizemore's contract Sunday from High-A Charlotte, Steve Carney of WDAE 620 AM reports. Sizemore will serve as the DH and bat second in Sunday's lineup against the Red Sox, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Sizemore's return to the big leagues in 2014 after a lengthy hiatus due to injury was a nice story, but it doesn't appear that he has much left in the tank at this point. He slashed a pedestrian .245/.288/.296 over 104 plate appearances with the Phillies before earning his release, but the platoon-happy Rays evidently still think he can be an asset from the left side of the plate. He'll likely have to perform well right away for the Rays if he hopes to avoid getting dumped off the 40-man roster.
