The Rangers announced Friday that Dave Magadan has been hired as their new hitting coach.
Scott Coolbaugh, who held the position previously, will be reassigned within the organization. Magadan had held the same position for the Red Sox since 2006, but with an option remaining on his contract was given the chance to pursue other opportunities. He becomes the fifth Rangers' hitting coach in the last five seasons.
