The Pirates are expected to continue negotiations on a long-term deal with Andrew McCutchen after renewing his contract Saturday. McCutchen is under team control through 2015 and the Pirates will consider buying out his arbitration years. The two sides discussed an extension throughout the offseason but were unable to come to terms. McCutchen posted an .820 OPS, 23 home runs, 89 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 2011 and projects to be paid as a top-tier center fielder.
