The Mets opted to send down Logan Verrett to make room for Jenrry Mejia rather than expose Torres, who has no more options remaining, to waivers. Torres' overall ERA and production is relatively solid, but his struggle with command and control has led to 10 in his last eight innings and 17 in his last 20.2 innings. That inability to limit his free passes issued means that Torres will remain in a middle relief role, even though the Mets need him to retire lefties with Jerry Blevins (forearm) still out.
